Harvest Fast Day

Chapel

We really enjoyed celebrating CAFOD’s Harvest Fast Day on Friday 4th October. The whole school took on the themes of ‘harvest’ and ‘fasting’ for form prayers and assemblies during the two weeks building up to the day to drum up enthusiasm and support.

The statistic of 1 in 8 people going hungry every day was effectively communicated using (fairtrade) chocolate as prizes in assemblies! On the actual day, around 20 students from the CAFOD group rattled a collection bucket during break and lunch time and shared prayer cards with other students inviting them to support The Big Share.

The catering staff supported the day by cooking simpler meals (with no meat) as a sign of solidarity. The students also led activities in the Chapel, including a wall of harvest plates filled with meals and prayers and a prayer chain of promises. (See attached photos).

A Chapel Prefect, James Knell in year 8 said “I really enjoyed the day, we went round with a bucket and people gave money for CAFOD. We did assemblies on harvest and we had no meat in school on Friday. The day was amazing. ”

HarvestThe school is now looking forward to their Mission Week with the theme ‘Opening Doors’ starting on 14th October.
