Physical Education

slider-img3This course is fully assessed by examination and external moderation of the practical element.

Practical Element
Pupils will be assessed in four aspects.

  • Practical performance as a player/performer.
  • Different role of leader, coach, choreographer, official or organiser.

These must be from at least 2 activity groups.
Practical activities vary from year to year according to the strengths of the group.

Group 1 – Outwitting an opponent in games e.g. Rugby/Netball
Group 2 – Accurate replication e.g. Gymnastics/Trampolining
Group 3 – Exploring and communicating ideas e.g. Dance
Group 4 – Performing to a maximum level e.g. Athletics
Group 5 – Identifying and problem solving e.g. Lifesaving/outdoor etc
Group 6 – Exercising safely and effectively e.g. Fitness and Health

Home work will be set and will usually be connected to the revision syllabus

Examination Element
One and a half hour exam
Unit 3 – Out of 80 marks
Unit 3 – 10 multiple choice questions – Short answer questions – 30 marks

Scenario question which is made available prior to the exam

Pupils must use the recognised Sports College PE kit for each lesson

This course gives an excellent start to those pupils wishing to make a career in sport/recreation/ leisure/tourism.  It also develops the pupil’s leadership skills.
