Future U and Blackpool Zoo

23 students from Years 9 and 10 took part in a residential weekend to Blackpool Zoo, funded by the Future U programme. The first day started off with a tour around the zoo before the students got stuck in mucking out giraffes and zebras, and had the opportunity to hand feed these gentle giants. They also built enrichments for different species, such as meerkats and gorillas, and took part in an endangered species workshop, where they handled snakes, lizards and insects.

The afternoon saw them watching a Sea Lion show, and then having a meet and greet with these beautiful and intelligent creatures. Everyone was excited to see the elephants, and we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see them being trained. All of the students fully embraced the unique opportunities they were given, and were awarded certificates for completing the Zoo Keeper Academy course.
