Hello, and welcome to the new Brownedge St Mary’s blog, Shine Online. Every half-term, our blog will bring you some stories about life in school, highlighting the events, activities and lessons that have mattered most to our pupils. Our first blog includes sporting successes, academic excellence, and some exciting guest workshops…

Everyone in school was wowed by the achievements of the Year 11 football team this term, who rounded out their school football careers with a brilliant 3-0 cup final victory over Balshaws. Led by captain Reuben, the Year 11’s produced an excellent display that mirrored the excellent year they’ve had on the pitch. Lewis C, Alex, Reuben, Luke, Liam, Nathan, Charlie, Archie, Warren, Joel, Ellis, Josh and Lewis S – we are all proud of you! What a superb accomplishment with which you can head into your final exams.

Year 8 had lots of fun with their recent STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – event. Run in conjunction with BAE Systems and CREATE Education, a selection of pupils got the exciting opportunity to learn how to design and produce objects with state-of-the-art 3D printers! Everyone was engrossed in the day and had lots of fun playing with the software. Meanwhile, Year 10 Health & Social Care pupils got a visit from Zoe at the Leyland Playscheme. She gave an interesting presentation about her role and even offered our pupils the chance to volunteer over the summer – a fantastic opportunity as they enter their final year of school.

A group of Year 7 and 8 pupils took on the Maths Challenge this term. A demanding exam designed to test the problem-solving skills of our highest achieving mathematicians, our entrants enthusiastically took on the task, with several pupils achieving bronze and silver awards! Well done to Evan, Ava, Daisy, Adrian, Lily, Frank, Alex, Dan, Hannah, Lewis, Aaron, Owen, Logan and Spencer, who all received bronze awards, and Jessica, Aidan and Alexandra for achieving silver awards. A special mention goes to Brad, who also gained a silver award as well as ranking as the best in school – keep up the great work!

Finally, this half-term was rounded-out with a school-wide celebration for Mary Day. This year, the focus was on the different stages of Mary’s life, and the lessons we can learn from her actions as a teenager and a mother, as well as in her moments of grief. Our chaplain Rachael arranged a host of fun and informative activities which captured the imagination of the Brownedge family, including games like Splat! and People Bingo, crafts, and some time for prayer and meditation. It proved to be a lovely day, and one where we could all let our light shine before parting ways for the half-term break.

Thank you for reading the very first Shine Online blog – we hope you have a restful half-term.
