Lexonic Reading Support

Lexonic is a structured, research-informed reading programme designed to strengthen pupils’ word recognition, decoding, and vocabulary skills. Delivered across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, the programme helps pupils build confidence and fluency by explicitly teaching the patterns, structures, and rules within the English language. Through targeted instruction each week, pupils develop in phonological awareness, morphology, and word-building strategies. Lexonic empowers pupils to independently break down complex vocabulary, improving their comprehension across the curriculum.

As a school, our intention is always to ensure that all pupils can access texts, engage meaningfully with reading, and ultimately enjoy the process of reading for learning and pleasure. Lexonic directly supports these aims by providing high-impact, small-group sessions that close gaps, build independence, and equip pupils with practical tools they can apply in every subject.

  • Lexonic Leap  - 3x 20 minute sessions per week
  • Lexonic Advance - 1x 1 hour session per week

We are very proud to say that this programme is already demonstrating considerable success, with pupils showing increased reading confidence, improved decoding accuracy, and stronger outcomes in written and verbal tasks. Lexonic continues to play a crucial role in our commitment to raising literacy standards and ensuring every pupil can fully participate, achieve, and thrive in our school.

Pupil Voice

After graduating from this programme, our pupils have described Lexonic as:

"challenging"          "fun"            "amazing!"          "helpful"            "enjoyable"            "educational!"

'Word of the Week'

We also utilised Lexonic's Wordology programme to help structure our whole-school 'Word of the Week.' Words are given definitions, broken up using syllabification, and the morphology of words is explored to help pupils (and staff!) understand the components of words and how meaning is created.
