Pupils were recently treated to an exciting and educational day of hands-on training, thanks to the generous support of BAE Systems. The event, held in preparation for the upcoming Lancashire STEM Challenge, saw Year 9 students dive into the world of 3D design and engineering with guidance from industry professionals.

BAE Systems, a global leader in defence, aerospace, and security, partnered with the school to deliver a specialised workshop focused on Onshape, a cutting-edge 3D printing software used widely in engineering and design. Pupils were introduced to the fundamentals of 3D modelling, gaining practical experience in creating digital prototypes and understanding how these designs translate into real-world applications.

The training session was not only a valuable learning opportunity but also a celebration of the school’s growing commitment to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Thanks to BAE’s continued support, the school has been able to acquire and maintain advanced equipment, including a 3D printer and scanner, which are now integral to its technology curriculum.

The Lancashire STEM Challenge is a regional initiative aimed at encouraging young people to explore careers in science and engineering through practical, team-based projects. With BAE’s mentorship and resources, our Year 9 cohort is now better equipped to take on the challenge and showcase their creativity and technical skills.

As the school continues to build strong links with industry partners, events like this highlight the importance of collaboration in preparing students for the future. The day served not only as a training session but as a powerful reminder of how STEM education can ignite curiosity, foster innovation, and open doors to exciting career paths.
